My name is Mike Lorey. When 2012 began my goal was simply to improve my life and become a positive example for others. It wasn’t a choice. More like a certainty. I would remodel, renew, and reinvigorate myself. Once transformation became my only option, all the excuses I could possibly have didn’t matter anymore.
In short, I succeeded…big time. I traveled through Europe (again), started doing CrossFit, lost 60 pounds (while building muscle), suffered through a few injuries, welcomed our first child into the world, and much more. To say that the year changed my life would be an understatement.
I re-imagined the word ‘Diet’
Over the years, my diet has varied dramatically. The one constant is that I have almost always been overweight; even when enduring grueling football and wrestling workouts in high school.
My diet eventually consisted of everything that a nutritionist would recommend and in the right quantities. I was eating a lot of vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, legumes, low-fat dairy, etc. Yet the fat wouldn’t yield (for long).
It was time to challenge the popular opinion on what constitutes a healthy diet. It was a long journey but eventually I found what worked for me.
I (re)joined the ‘Cult of Fitness’
Earlier in life I was very athletic and played a large selection of sports. Through all four years of high school, my sport seasons overlapped with very little time off. Football would give way to wrestling, followed by track & field, and then back to summer training for football.
Then college and adult life happened. I tried going to a globogym, cardio bootcamp, tennis, and cycling but my interest would start fading pretty quickly. Eventually my diminishing muscle mass and increased weight were causing regular lower back pain. It was time to find something that wouldn’t bore me and improve every aspect of my fitness.
My answer was CrossFit.
I found other ways to transform
My transformation may have started with diet and exercise but it needed more legs to stand on to become sustainable. So I found some ways of making a few dreams come true. I traipsed through Europe, spending time in Prague, Munich and Madrid; and my wife and I had our first child.
Although I have accomplished quite a lot so far…this journey is still just beginning.
Now I want to help others
This life transformation has not only been a tremendous inspiration for myself but for several others as well. As much as I enjoy bettering myself, helping other people live happier, healthier lives is much more rewarding. That is why I decided to become a health coach.
Health coaching just seemed like the perfect embodiment of all that I had done in my life and the new version of myself that I saw in the future.
I received my training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I was trained in more than 100 dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. Drawing on this knowledge, I will help you create a completely personalized “roadmap to health” that suits your unique body, lifestyle, preferences, and goals.
